Gibson '57 Classic Humbucker Pickup, Custom Historic 1956 Les Paul Goldtop Vintage

Gibson Custom Historic 1956 Les Paul Goldtop Vintage Original Spec Electric Guitar (with Case)

Ted McCarty's Tune-o-Matic bridge (also known as the ABR-1) started to appear on higher-end Gibson guitars as early as 1954. The ABR-1 was added to the Les Paul Model in 1956 and, with individual saddles to adjust each string's length as well as thumbwheels to adjust the overall height of the bridge, represented a quantum leap forward in intonation and a marked improvement in tone and sustain. Now part of Gibson's proprietary new Vintage Original Spec series -- the next step in the journey toward perfection.

www.frettedamericana.com This exceptionally fine fifty-four year old guitar weighs just 9.40 lbs. Solid mahogany body with a carved maple top. One-piece mahogany neck with a nice thick profile, Brazilian rosewood fretboard with 22 original frets and pearl crown position markers. Two really hot P-90 pickups with strong outputs of 7.68k and 7.96k. ABR-1 Tune-O-Matic bridge and separate stud tailpiece. There is very little wear to the original frets. Overall, this guitar is one of the best examples that we have ever seen. There is no fading to the back or neck and no greening to the gold top. Housed in the original Gibson "Bulb Headstock" five-latch Lifton brown hardshell case with pink plush lining (9.00). "The first Gibson Les Paul solidbody electric guitar, known simply as the Les Paul Model then but now better known by its descriptive nickname 'gold-top', first went on sale during 1952" (Tony Bacon, 50 Years of the Gibson Les Paul, p. 15).

Assorted bits of ZZ TOP ("Just Got Paid" "Nasty Dogs & Funky Kings"), THE WHO ("The Seeker" "The Punk Meets The Godfather"), FREE ("Mr. Big"), RUSH ("Bastille Day") and whatever else. Les Paul plugged into input 1 (normal voiced channel), then out of the amp into a 16ohm THD Hotplate set to -8db, then into a 4x12 loaded with 25 watt Greenback reissues. The amp volume is on 10. And no, I didn't plan on wearing a red shirt for this, it's purely accidental lameness. You can see, hear & know some more at www.reverbnation.com

Here's a great condition 1956 Gibson Les Paul Custom (Black Beauty) which I will be posting for sale soon on eBay. It is not perfect as it did get played but it is way cleaner than I've ever seen for one of these. Note the California "Cal" Girl pink lined case in the backround. From what I gather there were less than 500 of these made that year and less than 1000 total of this model ever made between the prototypes in 1953 until the end of 1956 (they changed to Humbucking pickups in 1957).Send me a message (through my channel page link...just click on my name or avatar) if you are interested. Most of this demo was with played on the "Burn" channel of my Fender Super Sonic amp and I vary the amount of gain (distortion) by changing the amp settings...I start with everything set at 5 (except the volume which was about 3) and then increase everthing as the video goes on and also by "playing" dynamics (how hard I hit the strings) and with the volume and tone controls on the guitar...when I say "treble" position, I mean "bridge" and when I say "bass" position, I mean "neck". I play it clean at the very end to show that off as well...this guitar is awesome! I sell lots of used guitars and basses (both here and on eBay...same name there...100% positive feedback) and I'm a dealer for the Mbrace stands and also Thomastik-Infeld strings. Let me know if there is something you want/write me if you're interested...use the send a message link on my channel page. Also...Guitars Wanted as <b>...</b>

Just a brief video with Phil Astles to show a few of the sounds you can get out of a LP Jr. The guitar is going into a 50s Fender Champ clone made by a local UK builder called a Tweedy Toneworks Atom. Only a VanAmps Reverbamate is in the signal chain. This was made quickly and briefly to test a new camera thingy. Subsequently posted incase there was any interest in these guitars.

This fifty-two year old Black Beauty with a solid Honduras mahogany body weighs just 8.90 lbs. One-piece mahogany neck with a wonderful fat '55 profile, Bound ebony fretboard with 22 original low "fretless wonder" frets and pearl block position markers. One Alnico pickup with a huge output of 8.46k and one P-90 pickup with an output of 7.79k. ABR-1 Tune-O-Matic bridge and correct mid-fifties Bigsby vibrato tailpiece. There is considerable playing wear to the the back of the neck and also moderate finish checking to the body, otherwise this wonderful sounding guitar is in excellent plus condition. Housed in the original Gibson four-latch black hardshell case with yellow plush lining (9.00).

Assorted bits of AEROSMITH ("Toys In The Attic"), UFO ("Natural Thing"), CHEAP TRICK ("High Roller", "Elo Kiddies"), BUDGIE ("In For The Kill") and ZZ TOP ("Brown Sugar") via my Les Paul and Fargen Mighty-Plex. This is a 2003 model running JJ EL34 and 12AX7 tubes. The volumes are both at 3 O'Clock and the amp is going into a Marshall 4x12 slant cabinet with Celestion 25 watt Greenback reissue speakers. The echo unit in the background is only performing the function of sitting quietly in the background. You can see, hear & know some more at www.reverbnation.com
